Experience one of the most spectacular wildlife events of the Italian Apennines: the red deer rut in Abruzzo National Park.
At the beginning of autumn, the forests and mountain clearings of the park become the stage for the red deer (Cervus elaphus) rut. As evening approaches, the deep roars of adult males echo across the valleys, while stags compete for access to females and defend their harems from rivals.
Our tour takes place during the best hours of the day, exploring selected areas where red deer gather during the breeding season. Using binoculars and spotting scopes, we will observe their behaviour from a respectful distance, listening to the calls of the males and, with some luck, witnessing interactions and confrontations between competing stags.
But deer are only part of the experience. The autumn landscape of Abruzzo National Park offers the chance to encounter other wildlife of the Central Apennines, while learning about the ecology of the red deer and its role in this extraordinary mountain ecosystem.
A special seasonal experience for wildlife watchers and photographers, available only for a few weeks each year.
