Discover the lowland habitats of one of the wildest river of Northern Italy, only one hour drive from Milano.

Spanning from Lake Maggiore to its confluence with the Po River, Ticino Park follows the main course of the Ticino River, which serves as a key ecological corridor running north–south across the heavily industrialised Po Plain.

Wolves, porcupines, roe deers, wild boars, and more than 150 bird species use the ancient riparian woodlands of the park to move freely between the Apennines and the Alps. The oak woodlands are also home to four species of woodpecker: great spotted, green, black, and the elusive lesser spotted woodpecker. 

The surroundings of the park are scattered with extensive rice fields which, from late march through the summer months, attract several species of waders such as ruff, black-winged stilt, curlew, and wood sandpiper, as well as many other species like the lapwing, the symbol of Ticino Park.
